The three Adventurers got to their feet, groaning with pain as their bodies, bruised from the tumble, complained from the effort. The hallway had opened into a large cavern, glowing moss covered the walls, making the area seem as though it was dancing as small pools of water reflected the alien light.

“Do you guys want to take a short break?” Lugor asked them.

“Can do.”

“Sure.”

They moved further into the room, and Lugor sat down on a mossy rock, the vegetation providing a minor amount of comfort. He slung his void-satchel off his back and withdrew the canteen. He’d originally thought he should have left the bag at the entrance with Matthias but was now glad he hadn’t. Moving to the wall, he squinted through the gloom until he found a stream of water and collected it within his canteen and drank his fill. Filling it again, he came back to the others and offered them a drink.

“Are you sure that was a good idea?” Shiva asked, frowning.

“It’s filtered through the rocks, I don’t see why it wouldn’t be OK to drink.”

“We’re inside a dungeon, Lugor. There’s a chance it’s not ordinary water.”

Lugor smacked himself on the head and poured the water out onto the ground. He’d just have to cross his fingers and hope the liquid didn’t have any adverse effects.

“How are you holding up, Sandal?”

The dwarf stopped twiddling his thumbs and looked up, “It’s not so bad in here. It’s an open space, so I don’t feel quite so uneasy. But I’d prefer it if we didn’t dawdle.”

“I agree,” Shiva said, getting off the rock. She whistled and Mollie jumped up onto her shoulder, rubbing her bony cheek against her mistress. “As far as I know we don’t have a time limit, but let’s get this over with.”

They walked together to the other end of the cavern to find another narrower passageway, they moved through it, Sandal’s breathing becoming heavier in his panic. Lugor stopped and held up a hand telling them to wait as he came to face to face with another swirling light, like the dungeon entrance.

“Do you think this is the exit?” Sandal asked hopefully, the relief in voice palpable.

“I don’t think so,” Lugor replied, chewing his lip. “I don’t think a single hallway filled with traps constitutes being a dungeon, it’s got to be something else. Sandal, can you check for another route with your earthsense?”

The dwarf placed his hand on the nearest wall and scrunched up his face, concentrating hard. A few moments passed before he shook his head, “As far as I can tell there aren’t any passageways in the area.”

“Whirling portal of mystery it is then,” Shiva said dryly.

Lugor and Shiva drew their weapons, and Sandal readied a spell in his right hand, soft flames dancing around his fingers. Together, they stepped through the portal. As Lugor emerged on the other side, he entered a large room, once more laid with brick as opposed to the stone of the cavern he had just left.
